PEOPLE — Dr Robin Hirst PSM Director

Robin Hirst has more than 30 years’ experience in leading museum development.

His work spans social and natural history museums, science centres as well as planetaria, children’s museums and specialist centres of excellence. He drives strategic thinking in collections development and management, research and exhibitions. He works across disciplines. He utilises high level skills in engaging collaborators, partners and supporters.

Robin acts as coach and mentor, as well as a presenter and educator in professional development in the cultural sector.

Prior to his consulting role Robin held the position of Director, Collections, Research and Exhibitions for Museums Victoria for more than a decade. He was President of ICOM Australia from 2013-2016 and worked with world leaders to set directions for museums and galleries globally. He is President of Museums Galleries Australia, Chair of Deakin University’s Cultural Heritage and Museums Advisory Board and Member of the Advisory Boards at the University of Melbourne and RMIT University. He was awarded a Public Service Medal in 2017 for his outstanding service to the museums and galleries sector in Victoria.

Robin has a PhD in Infrared Astronomy from the University of Melbourne.
